I began making a small stash of henna patterns, on a load of old envelopes I got from a scrapstore. But in the end I wanted to paint this up as a finished thing in itself- they are great fun to draw and slightly hypnotic. I think this was a Moroccan design. Partly related to meditation, partly, possibly, for repelling the evil eye.
I'm a bit obsessed by Moroccan patterns, and pattern generally at the moment.

It's drawn in pencil, inked in orangey drawing ink, and I painted in the white triangles last. This kind of exercise is really good for improving your coordination.

Ideally it should have been perfect as that little error in the bottom right throws the hypnotic effect a little. (one useful thing you get in posting pics is seeing them with a fresh eye and noticing things you can correct!)

Slight alteration

Comments should now be open for anyone- not just OpenID users!
Dang blogger default settings....

I am being invaded by spam as a result, so as a precaution I have enabled moderating on comments for a bit. x I'm also setting up a bloglovin' link to make things a bit easier.

There is currently a known bug with the Chrome browser, so all Blogger users might find it useful to note that it is caused by the 'embedded below post' option for commenting. To fix it, go to settings, comments, and make sure it is not selected. (thanks to Patricia for the fix)

I just switched mine to full-page commenting, which isn't ideal but at least it works for everyone. There is also a popup version, but I suspect may get stopped by adblocker programs, so I'm not using it.

GET IT FINISHED for gawd's sake!

I have been meaning to finish this thing for my grandmother for about two years. That's a record of slowness even for me....Hopefully this will repeatedly prod and hector me into finishing it every time I log in! It's A3, so this is only a snippet of it.

Of course the original models for this are tragically longer available :D *plays violin mournfully*

I can't remember what the hell this plant is, but I suspect it was cranesbill- I found it while weeding and the colours were amazing (usually they just look green) The actual size of the leaf was about the size of a single finger joint.

It was drying out while I did it, so I had to work fast- by the time I finished, it was just a little dry black crumpled ball, and you'd never have imagined it could ever have looked so beautiful. I just wish I could have done it justice!

I think I might do a bit more border outlining on the edges at some point, but I'm waiting for the post-drawing tampering feeling to subside first.
